REVIEW: theBalm MARY-LOU MANIZER

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while. If you were wondering, I was on vacation!! Todd and I just got back from a lovely trip to Seattle. We ate a lot, drank more than our weight in coffee, and got to see a bunch of friends (old and new!). I wouldn’t have been able to post, even if I wanted to! I barely had time to sleep, we were so busy. It was awesome.

Now that we are back to reality, I thought it was time to hop back on the beauty bandwagon! Todd just got promoted at work, and I am so proud of him. Me? Well, I am just here for you guys. (:

I thought that I would just pop in with a quick review today. I will start working on some tutorials now that I am back, but I just wasn’t feeling up to it today! I am still trying to unpack and get settled back in.

Oh Mary-Lou. Mary-Lou, I love you. This lovely gift from BronzeandBlush has already became a summer favorite of mine. I received it in the mail the day before we left, and I have used it almost everyday since! I love using it as an eyeshadow and a highlighter. The golden champagne color is perfect for summer, and I feel like a goddess with it on.

_IGP9954

I was a little skeptical at first, because I am so pale. I was very pleasantly surprised though. I think that this is really a universal highlight, especially for summer. I think this would be great if you are looking for a nice glow on your cheeks in the winter too actually.

_IGP9955

Swatchy-swatch. This is not a highlight that has huge chunk of glitter. It is more of a honey colored shimmery sheen on the skin. If you are only into matte products, this product is definitely not for you. I find myself going without an eyeshadow primer when I swipe this on my eyes really quick. I am in love, there’s not much else to say!!

Mary-Lou retails for $24 USD, and you receive 0.3oz. That is a lovely $80/oz. I know that sounds crazy, but this stuff is so pigmented, it will last forever.

Pros:

  • Pigmented
  • Shimmery (no huge chunks of glitter here!)
  • Perfect for a luminous glow
  • Eyeshadow AND highlight in one
  • Long wear time
  • Mirror in compact (yiss)
  • Cute packaging

Cons:

  • Seems fragile
  • Transfers on my hooded lids if I packed it on too much (a little goes a long way)

Blushing Daisy Score: 10/10!!

It was user error with the transferring. I really love this highlighter/eyeshadow. I am so grateful that my dear friend gifted it to me! (: Thanks girl!

What products from theBalm do you think are theBomb?

Bonus: Gorgeous latte from Victrola in downtown Seattle!

Swatches/Review: My MAC Eyeshadow Singles

L1050671

Hello everyone!

Yesterday I was gifted an overwhelmingly large amount of makeup (Thanks Bon!), and a big hunk of it was MAC. I only owned two eyeshadow singles beforehand, and I didn’t see the point of reviewing only two shades. I was actually planning on reviewing my MAC collection as a whole because of how small it was, but I have enough now to break it up into sections.

I like MAC’s eyeshadow, but I wasn’t wearing the two that I owned previously very often. You might be thinking why I neglect them, and, in all honesty, I neglect most of my eyeshadow! Since I received my Naked 3 palette for Christmas, I haven’t really been using much else. Well, it’s time to make a change!! My plan is to give my other shadows use alongside my beloved Naked 3!

No matter what brand eyeshadow, I will always use an eyeshadow primer. I switch back and forth between Too Faced Eyeshadow Insurance and Urban Decay Primer Potion. They both function on par with each other on my skin! For the swatches today, there is no primer though.

MAC Veluxe Pearl Eyeshadow in Jealousy Wakes

This is a dark shimmery forrest green. It applies smoothly and is very pigmented! I didn’t experience fallout while swatching this.

L1050655

MAC Satin Eyeshadow in Melody

This eyeshadow is more light than Jealousy Wakes and appears to be matte. It looks a bit powdery, but I didn’t experience any fallout while swatching.

L1050656

Left: Jealous Wakes | Right: Melody

Favorite of the two: Jealousy wakes. I prefer darker greens, but they can both be used together in the making of a green smokey eye!

L1050657

MAC Frost Eyeshadow in Very Violet

This is a faintly shimmery purple. It’s not deep, but not too light. There was no fallout, and it is very pigmented.

L1050658

MAC Matte Eyeshadow in Shock-A-Holic

I don’t understand. This eyeshadow is definitely not matte. You can see the glitter in the photo!! This one was harder to build up, and it did have a little bit of fallout. It’s a bit more deep of a purple compared to Very Violet.

L1050659

Left: Very Violet | Right: Shock-A-Holic

My favorite of the two: Definitely Very Violet. Shock was hard to build up, and it still appears patchy in the photo. Shock was also not matte, but claims so on the package. I’m shocked! (pun intended)

L1050660

MAC Satin Eyeshadow in Faux

How do I explain this color? It’s a reddish-taupe that leans slightly brown. It is matte, pigmented, and I didn’t see fallout.

L1050661

MAC Veluxe Pearl Eyeshadow in Antiqued

This is a beautiful coppery-reddish brown. It’s shimmery, pigmented, and doesn’t fallout! I think the name is quite suiting.

L1050662

MAC Matte Eyeshadow in Passionate

This is a pigmented matte pinky-red. I didn’t see any fallout. I have no idea how to integrate this color, but I am up for the challenge!

L1050664

Left: Faux | Middle: Antiqued | Right: Passionate

Favorite of the three: Antiqued hands down. The color is so beautiful, and I am excited to use it with my Naked 3.

L1050665

MAC Veluxe Pearl Eyeshadow in Knight Divine

This is a shimmery grayish-black. I love setting my pencil liners with this. It’s pigmented and there’s no fallout when using.

L1050667

MAC Veluxe Pearl Eyeshadow in Bright Future

This is a shimmery yellow gold that leans more yellow. It’s pigmented and there is very minimal fallout. This is from the Style Warriors Collection, and I am assuming that it was LE (Limited Edition).

L1050668

Left: Knight Divine | Right: Bright Future

Favorite of the two: Tied. They are too different to choose between!

Overall Favorite: Antiqued

Overall Least Favorite: Shock-A-Holic

Blushing Daisy Score: 9.5/10

  • Pigmented
  • Long lasting
  • Wide shade variety
  • Little to no fallout
  • Only two shades had minimal fallout: Shock-A-Holic and Bright Future
  • Only one patchy shade: Shock-A-Holic
  • Blend easily
  • $15 a pop

I like these overall, and would consider purchasing more in the future! Do you own any MAC shadows? How do you like them?

OOTD/FOTD Vegas Edition

Why hello ladies and gentleman!

I had a nice time in Las Vegas over the weekend. If you read my last post then you know that my reason for being in “Sin City” was for an European Car Festival (Wuste).

It was was definitely hot and the wind was crazy, but I had a nice time seeing people that I don’t get to see very often! I also met a bunch of awesome people as well. My boyfriend, Todd, and I always enjoy going to these events together. Our friend also drove down from Sacramento, so it was awesome to see him as well!

Let’s jump to the things that you guys care about!

L1050612

This was my outfit for main day of the festival, Saturday. I wanted my skirt to be tight fitting because of how windy it was!!

  • Blouse: H&M (Gift from the lovely Todd)
  • Belt: Forever 21
  • Skirt: Forever 21
  • Wedges: Urban Outfitters

I wanted to keep it simple, and I actually got a lot of compliments from random people! Yay!

Now, my makeup:

L1050615L1050617

I decided to skip the BB cream so that I could reapply my sunscreen as needed. I learned that matte lip products are not the best things for 20+ mph winds, but I managed! Ok, it was so windy that I thought that my false eyelashes were going to just fly right off of my face! They lasted throughout the day though! It was my first time wearing them in public, and I felt fabulous. I ended up cutting my Callas lashes and only putting them on the outer corner of my eye. They were a lot easier to apply that way (great for beginners like me!).

  • Elta MD facial sunscreen, SPF 40
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay 12hr Blush, Tipsy
  • Too Faced Snow Bunny
  • Too Faced Primed and Poreless (setting powder)
  • Covergirl Clean Concealer
  • Too Faced Eyeshadow Insurance
  • ELF Brow Kit (Mixed with NYX Jumbo Pencil in Black Bean)
  • Callas Lashes (cut)
  • Smashbox Limitless Eyeliner Pencil (tight line)
  • Smashbox Eye Brightening Mascara
  • Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara
  • UD Naked 3 (Limit, Burnout, Nooner, Darkside, Blackheart, & Strange)
  • Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso

I wanted to do big, dramatic wings, but my eyes were so irritated from the hot wind. I decided to keep it simple this weekend!

Here is the man behind the camera; the man who stole my heart! I had a great time with him, and he always spoils me to pieces!

Product list for this photo (taken Friday):

  • Elta MD Facial Sunscreen, SPF 40
  • Clinique Cheek Pop in Peach Pop
  • Too Faced Snow Bunny
  • Too Faced Primed and Poreless (setting powder)
  • ELF Brow Kit (Mixed with NYX Jumbo Pencil in Black Bean)
  • Too Faced Eyeshadow Insurance
  • UD Naked 3 (Limit, Nooner, Factory, Darkside, Strange)
  • Smashbox Limitless Eyeliner Pencil (Tight Line)

I hope you enjoyed the read! If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them.

Quick Eye Makeup- 5/7/14

photo

I really don’t like uploading photos from my phone, but I don’t have my camera with me at school! (Hello from my college’s library!)

This morning, I snagged a few products before I ran off to school. I am happy that the bathrooms in the library are empty in the morning, and the lighting is, surprisingly, quite nice!

My eye makeup today consists of only four products!

photo (1)

  • Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe
  • MAC Satin Eyeshadow in Faux
  • Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner (Black)
  • Smashbox Photo Op Eye Brightening Mascara (Black)

Directions:

  1. With a CLEAN finger, apply the color tattoo onto your eye as a base.
  2. Blend it out upwards slightly above your eye socket.
  3. Apply Faux all over where you just applied the color tattoo.
  4. Apply a heavier, concentrated layer of Faux in the outer corner.
  5. BLEND your crease!! You do not wan’t a solid line of shadow (The photo doesn’t show how blended it really is in person, I apologize!)
  6. I would add a highlight from where the shadow you just applied ends, to the brow bone. (This will help you blend as well- I didn’t have one with me)
  7. Line your eyes with eyeliner however you please (optional)
  8. Add Faux under your eye lightly. This will make your eyeliner look less harsh if you apply it on your lower eye (as I did).
  9. Curl those lashes with a WARM curler! (I stick it in my waist band on my pants when I start my makeup so that my skin can warm it up!)
  10. Apply mascara. Let dry.
  11. Apply another coat of mascara. (optional, I didn’t today).
  12. I applied my mascara to my brows to fill them in a bit more!

You can use any color cream eyeshadow along with a complimenting powder shadow! Have fun with it!

I really hope that you have a wonderful hump-day!

xoxo
